One Point Five

One Point Five

As a motorist please be aware that cyclists are extremely vulnerable whilst in amongst vehicular traffic.

  • A cyclist is not wrapped inside a crash tested metal cocoon and the slightest impact can cause significant injury.
  • Wheels and tyres are narrow and only offer a small contact footprint with the road surface. Small undulations and faults in the road surface can have a profound effect upon a cyclists ability to move perfectly straight.
  • Sunken drainage grids and broken road edges are a greater hazard for a cyclist who in attempts not to cause an obstruction to other road users keeps as close to the nearside of the road as possible but by so doing make themselves vulnerable.
  • At certain times of the year fallen leaves and gravel / grit swept to the side of the road by traffic hides sunken grids and broken road edges and therefore there is a necessity to stay slightly away from the extreme nearside of the road.

No cyclist deliberately causes you an inconvenience or tries to delay your journey. They do however have additional survival considerations whilst on roads so please allow then the space they deserve.
